Thread Painting is a way of “coloring in” areas on fabric using free motions stitching. This can be done on existing fabric, on something printed onto fabric from your computer, or onto a foundation of fabric that you have created and want to use the thread as detail work.
This workshop will include information on needles, threads, metallic threads; it will cover the use of free motion to do outlines, details, lettering or filling in areas of color. We will practice on a kit Leni will provide for an additional fee of $15.
Leni’s book on thread painting will also be available for purchase if you are interested.
Some familiarity with free motion stitching is helpful but not entirely necessary. Unlike free motion quilt motifs, the stitches in thread painting do not have to be perfectly even in size, this technique is more like using a felt tip marker with a fine tip. You must have a machine that will allow you to drop the feed dogs as well as a darning foot for the purposes of this class.
